It is hard to describe something that is so hard to do. It is not easy to be present at the moment and truly live at this moment, not the past or the future. It becomes more complicated if we think about the healing effect of being present at the moment because: How can we be present at this moment if we are focused on its effect in future? If HEALING is something we seek and we are looking forward to it’s happening, then we are focused on future and can’t be fully present at this moment.
It is hard to do something for the simple sake of doing it without thinking about the effects that action would have and what we would like to happen as a result of doing that. It is such a paradox, it is hard and yet it is so simple. In fact it is our nature’s default setting. It is the way we were supposed to be when we were born, before we were programmed to be sad about the past and worried about the future. But it is still hard to explain, yet easy to experience. The difference is between doing and being. If we stop focusing on doing the action of living the present moment and trade it with actually being at the present moment, the way we feel suddenly changes. There is a pleasant feeling of joy and peace that emerges from within. This feeling is the opposite of sadness and worry or one can say Depression and Anxiety. If one gets used to being in this state more often, the mind gets used to being in this mode. Joy and peace become the new habit and help healing the mental ailments like depression and anxiety. These consequences happen as a result of our internal changes of brain circuits and chemistry. It is amazing how living the way we are supposed to live and being the way we are supposed to be would make us feel so much better. The good thing about this is that once we learn to be this way, it is a new way of life and it is not only useful for our healing, but it will help us to feel good for the rest of our life, so long we continue to be present at every single moment. It is like being born again into a new life, a life we were designed by nature to live. The magic is that by being present at the present moment, nothing really changes, but at the same time it feels like everything has changed. This is how healing happens.
