The secret to happiness is not in reaching the goals we set in life, but in cherishing what we have achieved so far. The fact that we are alive today to read this sets us apart from the ones who wanted to be here today, but could not make it. Dreaming the sky and being happy with the earth is the art of simple living. Focusing more on being than doing.
Happiness will not happen as an event outside of our existence. It emerges from within, once we start to remind ourselves of what we have and not of what we want.
Many simple abilities we have like being able to breath, eat, sleep or walk are dreams of many others. We simply take all of our abilities for granted and focus so much on our inabilities.
We already know what we don’t like about our lives, we make sure we are reminded of them each day. It is the good things about our lives, the simple abilities we have and the part of our body that still works that need a glimpse of attention.
It is a good practice to revisit our body from head to toe and pay attention to the abilities of each part that works well. Then expanding this attention to our environment and notice our loved ones and friends. Then paying attention to the whole world and what it has provided us with. After all, 14 billion years of events have occurred so we can exist today. Let us cherish our presence here and be happy about all that we have.
