Hope is our secret weapon against COVID-19

There is no doubt that we are currently in a global war against COVID-19. It’s easy to get affected by the bombardment of negative news through conventional and social media. We keep searching all medias to find help in this crisis but there is a strong source of help inside all of us: HOPE.Hope is our secret weapon against COVID-19!

On the scientific side of this war, believe it or not humanity is at the best position in history to fight this virus now better than ever. We have learned a lot through our previous dealings with CORONA viruses when we fought SARS, EBOLA and MERS.

Today we know the structure of this virus, the cell receptor it needs to attach into, the cell enzymes it has to use to send its message and the parts of the cell it uses to replicate. Each of these steps are opportunities for us to attack this virus. There are many medications, MORE THAN 40 OF THEM, that we know work on each of these steps and are under investigation for proof of effect on this virus.

So there is HOPE. Because we know the structure of this virus we can work on using non-infective parts of its surface called spikes to make vaccines. We can use immune system boosters to improve our chances to fight this infection.

Over time because of increasing number of people who had this disease and have recovered, we can use their processed serum to prevent or treat COVID-19.

These are only few of many initiatives that are ongoing to fight back at this virus.Human race has survived many harsh environments and life threatening circumstances and resilience has become encoded in our DNA.

On the resilience side of this war: HOPE is our secret weapon for activating our resilience. By practicing personal and social hygiene, washing hands frequently, strict social distancing, following sleep hygiene, exercising, keeping a healthy diet, practicing positive thinking, boosting our immune system and practicing HOPE, we can activate our resilience and increase our ability to survive this crisis. Stay well and connected. More to come.
