The Only Way to Take Care of Future Is To Live At Present

  • September 1, 2012
  • Dr. Kevin Rod
We all know that we live our life, in most part, by worrying about the future. This habit, if I can call it that, is established in our brain since childhood. We are thought to worry about the future. In fact, we our brought up with the teaching of our value of existence depending on how well we would do in the future.

Winning or losing is thought to be the determining factor for who we are and how valuable our lives are. Since childhood we would do anything not to be called a ” LOSER”. The value of winning is repeated so often to us that gradually the fear of losing develops. Since we’re a little child, we had to pass through so many barriers and achieve a high number of goals. In fact, the line of things to get in life is a never-ending line. We are told that a GOOD CHILD is the one who does well at school. Then a GOOD YOUNG PERSON is the one who gets the best higher education or goes after the best employment. Then a GOOD ADULT is the one that prove being responsible by being successful. A GOOD PARENT is the one who provides the best facilities for the children. A GOOD PROFESSIONAL is the one who always follows the best practices, and so on.
There is really no end to this line of things to do to be called GOOD. Having to do all this makes us worry about our future and every step of our life we have no chance to rest and enjoy what has been achieved so far because there are still so many other things to be done. This is the main reason that we are always thinking about the future and planning how to be successful in our next goal.
This habit of thinking causes us anxiety. We have learnt that there is no certainty in life and because our thought value system depends on our success, thinking about all the things that can go wrong and all our shortcomings makes us worry more and more. This drains us from energy. It makes our mind tired and our soul wounded. We are never happy and there is no peace.
The question arises here is: how can we secure our future with a tired mind and a wounded soul? The reality is, we cant! We have to learn to focus at every given moment of our life. Treating present time as a present to us. Focusing at present has many great effects. The most important one is to free our mind and soul from the worry of future. This will give us more energy and make our actions better at each moment. This is why if we take care of each single moment, our future would turn out a lot better, without us having to worry about it every single moment of our lives.
